Affordable Housing Services

Affordable Housing

The Women's Center currently provides affordable housing to women with children. Our goal is to provide the same type of housing to single women within the next 3 years.

Housing Specialist

The Center employs a staff member who focuses on identifying existing, safe, affordable housing for TANF-eligible families and single women. In addition, the Housing Specialist works to improve landlord relationships with our clients.

Epiphany House

Since the Women's Center began serving low-income and homeless women in 1992, our dream has been to provide a place of peace and tranquility where the women we serve can feel safe and wanted.  Too often, the homeless face humiliation and rude stares from passers-by and fellow citizens.

As with most dreams, ours has been built in phases.  The first we accomplished in 1993 when we officially open our doors as a day shelter for homeless women.  During the past seven years, thousands of women have passed through our doors and enjoyed a hot cup of coffee and a warm greeting.

Epiphany House represents a second major phase of our dream. . . a four bedroom, three bath home where single women can live.  There's a wrap-around front porch, complete with porch swing, where residents can relax and enjoy the early evening and the summer's fireflies.

Funding for Epiphany House comes from Wake County Human Services, Triangle United Way and from private donations.  Half of our annual funding comes from individual, church and corporate donations from as far away as Boston and San Francisco - and as near as the neighbor next door!
