Basic Needs Services address survival and safety needs of women and children who are homeless. The Women’s Center provides the only day shelter for women in The Triangle. Our day shelter provides a safe place to be during the day time hours, and safe shelter from the extreme cold of winter and often blistering hot days of summer.
Services include food for improved nutrition, access to transportation (bus tickets), personal hygiene products, emergency food and food referrals, clothing, mail services, access to a phone, and aid in obtaining an identification card (vital for accessing community resources). In addition, Basic Needs Services are often the portal of engagement to other support services we provide, such as recovery readiness for substance abusers and engagement for behavioral and mental health treatment, and/or our housing assistance.
The Supportive Services Program provides case management, health education and testing. Case management for individuals can range from an assessment of strengths and needs to full support in attaining and maintaining the client’s goal of self-sufficiency.
Health education and services are provided in partnership with public and private agencies.
We have partnered with Advance Community Health who is providing primary physical and mental health care on site Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 12 noon each week.
Free and confidential HIV/STD / Hepatitis C testing is provided twice a month on site by Wake County Human Services.
