Seasonal On-Call Shelter Monitor (Holiday Coverage)

Position Summary

The Seasonal On-Call Shelter Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for individuals residing in the shelter during the holiday season. This position provides on-call coverage to support shelter operations during peak periods and staff absences. The Shelter Monitor ensures adherence to program rules, provides assistance to guests, and responds to emergencies or incidents as needed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor the facility to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all shelter guests and staff.

  • Conduct guest check-ins and check-outs, maintain accurate attendance and incident records, and assist with bed assignments.

  • Enforce shelter rules and policies consistently and respectfully.

  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of sleeping areas, bathrooms, and common spaces.

  • Assist with meal distribution, supply distribution, and shelter cleaning as needed.

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, conflicts, or behavioral issues and report incidents according to policy.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries with all guests.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shelter Supervisor or Program Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Prior experience in shelter, social services, or human services setting preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness and those in crisis.

  • Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, is required.

Compensation and Schedule

• Hourly rate: $15 per hour
• This is a seasonal, on-call position running approximately from November 1st through January 31st, with it possibly  turning into a permanent position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for extended periods of time; ability to attend off-site meetings occasionally; ability to read documents and correspondence

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance

  • Bending, stooping, standing, lifting, and walking are all requirements of this position

HOURS:  Varied, Flexible. Some weekend and evenings may be required
